Jacobs, Louis

(b. 1920)
   English rabbi and scholar. He was born in Manchester and served as a rabbi there, and later in London. From 1959 to 1962 he was a tutor at Jews College, but he was disqualified by Chief Rabbi Brodie as a candidate for the post of principal of the college because of his views. He subsequently founded the New London Synagogue, where he served as a rabbi. He wrote on halakhic issues, Jewish theology and philosophy, and Jewish mysticism. His publications include We Have Reason to Believe, Principles of the Jewish Faith and A Jewish Theology.
